Brief introduction: In recent years, with the continuous development of urban central heating in China, compensator as a key component is more and more widely used in the thermal pipe network. But if the compensator is improperly deployed in the pipe network, it will cause damage to the whole pipe system, even lead to malignant accidents. This paper is based on the design and layout of compensator in the thermal pipe network, and combined with many years of practical experience, summarized some experience for reference. Preface:


Compensator is more and more widely used in heat network because of its compact structure, large compensation, small flow resistance, zero leakage, no maintenance and many other advantages. But it also has some shortcomings that are not easy to solve: for example, axial compensator produces pressure thrust on the fixed support, resulting in large thrust of the fixed support, which leads to high cost; in addition, the thin pipe wall of the compensator can not withstand torsion, vibration, poor safety; high equipment investment, strict design requirements, high construction and installation accuracy, often fail to reach the life expectancy and a series of shortcomings. In view of these shortcomings of the compensator, and because many designers and builders are not familiar with the compensator fully enough, accidents easily occur during construction and operation. Analyzing the causes of accidents, some of them belong to the problems of manufacturing quality or improper material selection of compensators themselves, some belong to construction problems, and a considerable part of them belong to the problems of design and layout. Most of the design problems occur in the pipeline design of corrugated compensator, which are not clear about the characteristics of pipeline design, resulting in calculation errors and unreasonable selection of compensation pipeline.


The main performances of the compensator include: compensation amount, elastic stiffness, compressive strength, stability, fatigue strength and so on. The general design requirement of thermal pipe network is to satisfy the strength, stability, and fatigue life, and the larger the compensation amount, the better the stiffness value is, the smaller the better. Compensator can form various functional compensators through the combination of additional tie rods, hinges and other accessories with bellows. Different compensator combinations can form various forms of compensating pipes to meet the compensation needs of thermal pipe network. The combination of compensators is divided into axial compensator and angular compensator. Compound tie-rod compensator piping system adopts angular and compound tie-rod compensator which is closer to natural compensating piping system. Without considering internal pressure thrust, axial compensator is adopted because it bears large internal pressure and has a large amount of compensation. Concentric precision is demanded and problems occur.
